I am so very excited to show you something that arrived on my doorstep a few weeks ago. It is a hand dyed sea fan from Sherry @ No Minimalist Here‘s Etsy Shop. I love Sherry’s blog, one of the first blogs I began to follow, and I’ve been drooling over her sea fans for quite some time. What a beautiful piece of art for my home.
There are so many decorating styles that I love and one of those is Coastal Style. When we remodeled our little guest cottage I was able to go coastal all the way and I had so much fun. I never really thought of adding coastal touches to my own home because it is more of a Farmhouse Glam style (to take a quiz to find your own decorating style click HERE). Then I began noticing that many of the blogs I follow with decorating styles similar to mine do use coastal touches, especially in their summer decorating.
With that revelation I was “on board” and ready to go. I began by shopping my own home for things that could be considered coastal and then I purchased a few items to add to the look. This is one of those vases that nearly everyone has hanging around their house. I added some blue marbles and a few seashells we already had from trips to the seashore.
This sits on my dining room windowsill with a sugar and creamer set that I bought years ago at a garage sale. I love these darling froggies.
This was an empty olive oil bottle that I kept because of it’s blue tint. I added more marbles, painted the cap white, covered it with some raffia and glued a piece of coral to the top (also from our stash of seashells).
Next are a couple of plates I had on hand. This one was already on display because it picks up the colors in my stove’s backsplash. I never even noticed that it looks like a sand dollar until now.
I pulled this plate out of the back of a china cabinet because it fits the color scheme.
This is a picture that my mother-in-law painted many years ago. It was already hanging in my dining room and it fits the theme completely. A little castle on a lake.
So I did have the fun of going out to buy a few things to add to my summer beach decor. I loved the color of this large Japanese float that I found at a local shop named Second Hand Rose (I will be blogging soon on this fabulous place).
For my living room I bought some new pillow covers from Pottery Barn to temporarily cover my Fall/Winter pillow. Then I came across the small gold “ropey” pillow at Pier 1 Imports.
Baskets add to the summery feel,
and of course it was time to change up my cloche once again.
I found this wonderful handmade vase at a local store Drees of Olympia, along with the fun driftwood ball (I want to try to make one of these). To complete the look I added a few shells and some moss.
Now on to my dining room table. I had the white candlesticks and to those I added two large blue candlesticks from HomeGoods. I wanted a table runner to put these on so I found a couple of pieces of leftover wood we had beside the garage, washed off the mud and dry brushed some gray paint on the boards to make them look aged by the weather. A few more marbles, more sand dollars found on one of our beach trips (with clear glitter added) and a couple more Japanese floats from the antique store.
A few more things atop my gas fireplace mantle. I had the lantern which now houses some shells and a flameless candle. The blue and green glass ball is from a blown glass artist in Oregon, a previous vacation memento, and the Waterford crystal swans were given to me (and to all her daughters and grandaughters) by my mother.
The view is of the lake we live on. I know, we live on a lake! Why would I ever think I couldn’t add some coastal touches to my home?
That’s my summer decor. I think I am really going to enjoy it. Now I’m just wishing for the weather to warm up again. We had a few days of summer weather but today it is cold outside!
What are you doing around your home to decorate for summer? If you live inland do you dare to go a little bit coastal? This blogging experience has sure made me a little more adventurous at home.

Beautiful! I enjoy adding a bit of coastal during the summer, especially on a table or in the sun porch. Mostly I use my Nantucket baskets and a pretty shell covered box. I grew up on the Texas Gulf, so coastal is part of who I am. ‘-)

So many gorgeous images!
Thank you for being a part of Seasonal Sundays.

Patti, you’ve done a great job of going coastal. I have never went to coastal here. I have seen others do it even though we are so far away from ocean and I like it. But, I always lean more towards nautical. I go from Poppies, cherries, Americana, and watermelon for my summer décor. Love what you did though! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
