The Write 31 Days Challenge – 31 Days,Every Day,One Topic
Day 6
(day 1 starts here)
Are you ready for a break from the heaviness of my past few posts? I know I am!
I ended yesterday’s post talking about stones, and how God wants to use the stones that have been thrown at us to build a strong foundation for the future. Over the years God has turned the core of my pain into the core of my purpose, and that has made me grateful (I’m thankful for all things eventually) for any stones once thrown my way.
There’s another kind of stone I want to talk to you about today and that is Stones of Remembrance. In Joshua 4 God spoke to Joshua and instructed him to summon twelve men, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel, and instruct them to take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan river.
Then Joshua instructed the men to build a memorial from the twelve stones. Why? So that in the future, when their children asked them why the stones were piled there, they could tell them it was in remembrance of the day that the waters of the Jordan parted as the covenant chest of God crossed the river.
Remembering God’s work in our lives is extremely important. When we remember His goodness to us and the promises He’s made, good things happen. When we forget His great works on our behalf we begin to dwell on other things like possessions, position, or troubles, and we lose our peace.
This was true throughout the Bible whenever God’s people neglected to remember lessons of the past, and it’s true in our lives today.
We honor God by remembering the lessons we’ve learned and the blessings we’ve received and worshipping Him with grateful hearts.
I like the idea of creating stones of remembrance that I can place around my dwelling with key words or Scriptures that remind me of God’s faithfulness to me.
DIY: Maybe today you’ll be motivated to find a few rocks and a permanent marker and make a few stones of remembrance yourself.
There are many other ways of remembering God’s goodness too. Journaling, writing words on slips of paper and creating a memory box to store them, memory quilts . . .
What ways do you remind yourself of events in your life where God has been faithful to you? I promise you that when you have visual reminders they will encourage your heart when things get hard and they will serve as reminders that He always has been faithful and He always will be faithful. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Amen!
Blessings y’all,
